Graveside Services for Velva Berniece Harman, 96, will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at the Bethel Cemetery, southwest of Fairview, Oklahoma. The Reverend Ray Schoonmaker will officiate. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Viewing will be, Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Velva Berniece Harman was born August 23, 1911 in Custer City, Oklahoma to Edward and Carrie (Wright) Canary and passed away Friday, April 18, 2008 at Okeene Hospital in Okeene, Oklahoma.

Berniece married Amel James Harman on December 29, 1934 in Oklahoma City. After the wedding, Berniece was a homemaker while Amel taught school until World War II. They moved to Amarillo Texas and Berniece worked as a bomb maker at the Pampa Bomb Factory until the end of the war. Amel was transferred to Denver, Colorado and naturally she accompanied him. In 1948, they moved to Oklahoma, on the day of the Woodward Tornado. Together they started a turkey farm. Berniece aided and supported her husband with the turkey farm and all his endeavors and was a wonderful homemaker, mother and grandmother.

Surviving are two sons, Bruce Duane Harman and wife Carol of Woodward, James Bryan Harman and wife Sheila of Longdale; one daughter Linda Sue McCollum and husband Don of Okeene; one son-in-law Andrew J. Clifford of Davis, California; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Amel, daughter Carolyn Clifford; two brothers; four sisters; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Okeene Hospital Foundation, with Fairview Funeral Home acting as custodian.
