Obituary

Funeral Services for Vernie Edwin Frazier, 88, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the great room in the Fairview Fellowship Home with burial at 3 p.m. at the Ames Cemetery. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Vernie was born August 26, 1924 in Penalosa, Kansas to LeRoy and Maude (Burling) Frazier and died April 6, 2013 at the Fairview Fellowship Home.

Vernie grew up in the Ames area. On May 28, 1943 at the young age of 19, Vernie joined the United States Army and served in the Pacific Theater. He saw action in many different locations in the Pacific and received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, Good Conduct medal, and the Purple Heart. Vernie was Honorably Discharged on December 6, 1945. He returned home and went to work in Enid building grain elevators for about three years. He helped build the big grain elevator in Hutchison, Kansas that was almost a half mile long. Vernie then went to work closer to home at USG in Southard where he worked for the next 34 years. Vernie married Oleane Teer, October 30, 1952 in Taloga, Oklahoma. Vernie not only gained a wife in the marriage but also a step-son, Laverne (Butch) Sutton. Butch was killed as a young man during Vietnam. Vernie will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by three sisters; Ann Barnett, Ruth Wilson, and Ruby Bridges, and one brother, Clarence Frazier as well as many nieces and nephews.

Vernie was preceded in death by his parents, wife Oleane; two sisters, Florence Wiltse, and Marjorie Stonehocker, two brothers, Vernal (Shorty) and Lester.

In lue of flowers, memorials may be made to the Country Store at the Fairview Fellowship Home with Fairview Funeral Home acting as custodian
