Obituary

Funeral services for Vernon Dupree Reames, 91, of Fairview, will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 12, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church of Fairview. The Reverend Richert Redinger will officiate. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Viewing will be at Fairview Funeral Home, Inc: from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 11th.

Vernon Dupree Reames was born on November 12, 1917, to Russell M. Reames and Estella M. (Caldwell) Reames on a farm southwest of Homestead, Oklahoma. He passed away on December 9, 2008, at the Fairview Regional Medical Center.

Vernon grew up on the family farm near Homestead and graduated from Homestead High School. He attended Dallas School of Business. Vernon married Alice Juanita Brickman on August 16, 1939 in Fairview, Oklahoma. They were blessed with a son and a daughter. Vernon owned and operated Reames Motor Company from 1939 to 1981 (founded by his father Russell) and attended many dealership classes. He continued to farm throughout his life. Vernon was very active in Fairview, the surrounding communities and in several state organizations. These include the Fairview Lions Club (President 1962-1963) and Lions Club Zone Chairman (1968); Oklahoma Automobile Dealers Association (President 1980); National Automobile Dealers Association; Okeene Roundup Club; Fairview Fire Department; Fairview Chamber of Commerce; and served as a Homestead Boy Scout Sponsor. Vernon was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was baptized in 1951. He was also a member of the Homestead and Okeene Methodist Churches in his earlier years. Vernon was a gentleman, a genuine decent, honest hard-working man, a loving family man and friend to many.

He is survived by his wife , Alice J. Reames; son Ronald D. Reames and wife Marla; daughter Jean Paden, all of Fairview; three grandchildren, Gregory Lehr and wife Mechelle, Cari Owens and husband Jeff, Courtney Martens and husband Brent; seven great-grandchildren, Audrey Lopez and husband Joey, Katie Lehr, Lexi Lehr, Joshua Owens, Kaden Lehr, Preston Martens and Jordan Owens.

His mother Estella, father Russell, two brothers and one great-granddaughter preceded him in death.

Memorials may be made to the Fairview First United Methodist Church or the Fairview Regional Medical Center with Fairview Funeral Home, Inc acting as custodian of the funds.
