Obituary

Funeral Services for Virginia Mae (McAdoo) Jackson, 86, will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, May 29, 2008, at the First Baptist Church of Fairview. The Reverend David Mendenhall will officiate. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 28, 2008 from 9am to 5 pm at the funeral home and at the church prior to the service.

Virginia Mae (McAdoo) Jackson was born October 27, 1921, at Spiro, OK to Wiley Welch and Rhoda Katherine (Morgan) McAdoo. She died May 24, 2008, at the age of 86 years old at the Summit Living Center in Okeene, OK.

Virginia graduated from Spiro High School in 1940 where she was active in 4-H Club and won state and national honors. She graduated from Eastern Oklahoma A&M College at Wilburton, OK in 1946 as the outstanding woman student in her class. She attended Oklahoma A&M College at Stillwater, Ok in 1947-1948 where she served as counselor in Murray Hall. She married Herbert Milton Jackson in Alva, OK January 22, 1949. She graduated Cum Laude from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Weatherford, OK in 1971. She received her Masters of Education Degree from SWOSU in 1976.
She worked as a licensed parachute mechanic at Douglas Air Force Base, Douglas, Arizona during World War II and was working at Tinker Field when the war ended. She worked as a teacher's aide in Laverne Public Schools in Laverne, OK from 1965-1969. She taught elementary school for 17 years, 15 of which were in Wakita Public Schools, Wakita, OK. She retired from teaching in 1986.

Virginia also did volunteer work after she retired from teaching. She volunteered for one year in the Camargo Public Schools as a teacher's aide. She worked as a volunteer in the Laubach Literacy Program helping adults learn to read. She also spent time reading to and aiding the elderly with sight impairment problems.
She was baptized in 1931 into the First Baptist Church in Spiro, OK. She was later a member of the First Baptist Church in Wakita, OK and then moved her membership to the First Baptist Church in Fairview, OK. She served her church as Sunday School Director, church clerk, Sunday school Teacher and Bible School Teacher.

She is survived by six sons and one step-son: Herb and Becky Jackson of Camden, Delaware; Emery Jackson of Frederica, Delaware; Ron and Joyce Jackson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Cleo and Kenna Jackson of Blackwell, OK ; John Jackson of Oklahoma City, OK; Robert Jackson of Union City, OK; step-son, Carl and Sharon Jackson of Rogers, Arkansas; by one daughter, Nelda Jackson of Stillwater, OK; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren;, and one niece, Ruth and Dee Ramsey of Dill City, OK.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Rhoda Katherine Adams and Ruth Hull, and one stepdaughter, Wanda Wieser.
