Funeral Services for Vivian E. Schmidt, 90, of Fairview, will be 10:30 a.m., Sunday, December 1, 2013 at the Church of God In Christ Mennonite, Fairview, with burial in Cedar Cemetery. Arrangements by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Vivian Eileen Nightengale Schmidt was born May 6, 1923 south of Isabella, Oklahoma to John and Eva (Wedel) Nightengale. She went to be with Jesus Monday evening, November 25, 2013 at the Fairview Fellowship Home in Fairview, Oklahoma. She was 90 years old.

Vivian spent her childhood in the Isabella area and moved with her parents to the Texas panhandle in her teens. She accepted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized in February of 1937. During the Dust Bowl days, they moved back to Isabella. Being one of the older siblings, Vivian took part in raising her younger siblings. She married David Alfred Schmidt on February 24, 1943 in Fairview. Their first home was in the Ringwood area where Jim and Bonnie were born. From there they moved to Fairview and then to California in 1950. While in California, Betty, Bill, and David were born. Mom spent her time taking care of her family and others in the community through her volunteer work. The family moved back to Fairview in 1960. Richard was born into the family after this time. Mom and Dad were married almost 60 years. Being a homemaker was a blessing to Mom. She enjoyed raising her children, taking in ironing to help support the income, canning, making sauerkraut and pickles, cooking, and sewing for her entire family. She loved visiting with her siblings, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and making everyone else happy. Her love of reading kept the Fairview Library on their toes trying to find new books for her to read. After Dad passed in 2002, Mom was able to live at home even while enduring illness until she moved into the Fairview Fellowship Home in 2010. She considered this her new home. Mom quickly began to make friends of the other residents and adopted the caretakers as family. We were blessed to discover after her passing of the wonderful ministry of spreading Jesus' love and acceptance to the other residence and employees of the home. Her unconditional love radiated throughout her life to family, in-laws, friends, and strangers up until her last days. She even graciously accepted her ruffian sons-in-law.

Vivian is survived by four sons, Jim Schmidt and wife Betty, Bill Schmidt and wife Carla, David Schmidt and wife Felisha, and Richard Schmidt and wife Cynthia; two daughters, Bonnie George and husband Roger, and Betty Brinson and husband Steve; 15 grandchildren, Corey Schmidt, Andrea Schmidt, Lesa Brinson, Mendy Brinson, Matt and Carrie Brinson, Joshua and Melissa Schmidt, Jessica and Brent Wedel, Sarah and Jerome Koehn, Breanne George, Roger and Lacey George, Isaac Schmidt, Amanda Schmidt, Jacob Schmidt, Kristina Schmidt, and Kolton Schmidt; and 9 great-grandchildren, Rebekah and Parker Schmidt, Tobias Schmidt, David and Bailey Schmidt, Eva and Ty Wedel, and Hanna Koehn; four brothers and four sisters, Paul Nightengale, Waunita Koehn, Richard Koehn, Floyd and Carolyn Nightengale, Shirlene Koehn, Jewell and Glenn Wedel, Roger and Lori Nightengale, Lauretta and Victor Koehn, Andrew and Paula Nightengale.

Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dave, and eight siblings.
