Celebration of Life for William Carroll Simmons, 80, of Fairview will be 1:30 pm, Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Fairview Funeral Home Chapel. The Reverend Jim Veal will officiate. A private family burial will be Friday, April 7, 2017 at 3 pm in Morgan, Texas.   Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Family visitation will be Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 6 PM to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Carroll was born September 9, 1936 in Abilene, Texas to Dykes Askew and Willie Mae (Ligon) Simmons and passed away peacefully on April 1, 2017 in Enid, Oklahoma at the age of 80.

Carroll grew up in East Fort Worth graduating from Polytechnic High School. After completing high school he joined the United States Navy and served for four years. He was then honorably discharged and returned home. He continued his education at Texas Christian University receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. While attending college, he went to work for the Fort Worth fire department and truly enjoyed serving and protecting others. He liked it so much that after he completed college he continued to work there until he retired in 1971.

Carroll met Marilyn McKimmey and on January 24, 1964 they were married. The couple was soon blessed with two boys and two girls. In 1971 after retiring from the Fort Worth fire department, the family moved to Fairview, Oklahoma. Carroll went to work for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. Again he found a new career where he could help people. He was always working with the inmates, helping them to get rehabilitated and on the right path. He worked for DOC 15 years and in his spare time worked as an auto mechanic. People would ask him for help with their vehicle and he was always ready to help. He also worked for many years as a mechanic for Burrell's Implements.

Carroll was a member of the Firefighters association and the Fairview Lyons club. He was a life time member of the NRA. He was a good Christian man that was always trying to help others. He was a devoted husband for 53 years, a loving father and grandfather and will be missed by all those who knew him.

Carroll is survived by his loving wife Marilyn, his two daughters, Annalyn Evans and her husband Al of Crowley, Texas, and Alicia Trammell and her husband Perry of Scio, Oregon; his two sons, David Simmons and his wife Debby of Azle, Texas and Tomm Simmons and his wife Whitney of Stuart, Florida, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Carroll was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Memorial contributions can be made to the St Jude's Children Hospital with Fairview Funeral Home acting as custodians.
